Letter from Lt Col Meyrick Shawe, [Private Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant], Dublin Castle, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, enclosing letter he received from Maj Samson Carter, Dublin, outlining his service to the Irish government following his termination as resident magistrate in County Waterford. Shawe states that he feels Carter ‘is fully entitled to the testimonial of good conduct requested in the inclosed letter’. Also copy of letter from Gregory to Carter, informing him that his removal as magistrate ‘has not been occasioned by any dissatisfaction of your conduct, but from the causes having ceased which induced His Excellency to send you to that district’.
