Memorial of David Charles Roose, 7 Upper Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin, to Richard Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, seeking a copy of a representation previously submitted to him which reflects badly on his character. States he was elected on 1 June 1827 to serve as High Sheriff of Dublin, with effect from 29 September 1827. Annotation on reverse questions if such a document was received in the Chief Secretary’s Office. Also draft and copy of reply, informing him that as the Lord Lieutenant [Richard Wellesley] and the Privy Council are satisfied that he has been duly elected to his office, there is no need to enter a defence against same.

File of papers relating to petition of Bryan Gately, 12 Mountrath Street, King’s County [County Offaly], to [Richard Wellesley], Lord Lieutenant, seeking compensation for seizure of his property. States that while he served in the county militia, he was also a retailer of spirits, until 12 March 1826, when 2 police officers, Joseph Abbott and Samuel Paisley entered his home at 16 Smithfield and seized a quantity of alcohol, assaulted his wife, imprisoned him and fined him £2. Encloses copy of affidavit outlining his case, as well as printed copy of the Exercise of Trades by Soldiers, etc. Act, 1816, prepared by His Majesty’s printers, George and John Grierson and Martin Keene, 1825.
