States they left the county in 1823 ‘though complete distress and want’; that he does not know if they are in a poor house or another colony in ‘some distant part’; having not heard from them in some time, that he is ‘quite forlorn’; and that he has even placed an advertisement in the Dublin newspapers. Contains names and ages of his family at the time of their leaving: his wife Bridget, aged 40 years; Philip, 15; Bridget, 11; Denis, 9; and Michael, 6. Also note by Michael Forde, Chief Constable, Head Police Office, stating that he has made enquiries at the House of Industry and the Mendicity association, and with agents on the Quays and those responsible for sending passengers to America, but cannot find a solution to ‘this melancholy case’. |
