Letter from Dr Francis Barker, secretary, General Board of Health, [Dublin], to William Gregory, Under Secretary, returning memorial of the management committee of Kevin Street Fever and Dysentery Hospital to [Richard] Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, referring to the recent government order to empty the hospital of its patients, and suggesting that as the hospital remains fitted and functional, it might be best to offer it as a private fever hospital for middle class patients, at a rate of £1 admission, as members of this class have previously been ‘deterring from accepting of Hospital accommodation by the dear of mixing with paupers, and the lower orders of Society’. Contains 12 signatures. Barker states that the board reject the committee’s suggestions, as it does not feel that such a permanent measure is needed to tackle the current emergency.
