Copy of memorial of Lieut Richard Ashe, Coolehane, County Cork, to Richard Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, claiming that Mathew Riordan, a man in his employment has been unfairly tried and sentenced to three months in prison for an alleged assault on Catherine Mullins, ‘an unfortunate prostitute’, despite Mullins’s charge having being dropped prior to the trial coming to court; noting that John McCann, assistant barrister, insisted that the case be heard and noting other irregularities in the case, claiming that Mullins was encouraged to accuse Riordan by a man named Coghlan, who is in the confidential employment of Robert D Eyre. Also letter from Ashe, to William Lamb, Chief Secretary, claiming that as a result of the above mentioned memorial, McCann has sought to persecute and slander him including attempting to turn the sheriff of the county against him and also having him excluded from the Grand Jury which sat at the Macroom Sessions.
