File of documents concerning the removal of Chief Constables Bodkin and Henry Peter Brown from the Meath Constabulary following a decision by the Grand Jury of Meath to reduce the number of chief constables. Includes return listing the names of the chief constables of the Meath Constabulary and their date of appointment. Also eight letters from John Harvey, Inspector General, Portarlington, [Queens County or County Laois], to William Gregory, Under Secretary and Francis Leveson Gower, Chief Secretary, forwarding a resolution from the Grand Jury of County Meath [extant] recommending that the number be reduced from 8 to 6; suggesting that two less efficient officers be reduced in other counties and the Meath officers transferred; discussing allowances and compensation; forwarding medical certificates and request for leave of absence for Bodkin [extant]. Also copies of the resolutions of the magistrates and inhabitants of Enniscorthy, County Wexford dated 1824, recommending Capt Henry Browne and expressing disappointment that he is to be removed from Enniscorthy. Letter from Patrick Manly, carpenter, Swords House, [Dublin], to Henry William Paget, Lord Lieutenant, drawing attention to a dispute surrounding the design of the new catholic chapel at Swords during which his client, Mrs Taylor, was grossly insulted by Capt Brady. Also letter from [NE] Brady, Chief Constable, Swords, to Alderman Frederick Darley, Inspector General, explaining that the dispute concerns the breaking open of a private door for Taylor, who was one of the subscribers to the building and her disagreement with the parish priest, Rev Carey; adding that Manly is motivated by the loss of work in installing the door.
