Memorial signed by eight magistrates, Tamlaght O'Crilly, Kilrea, County Londonderry [Derry], probably to Henry William Paget, Lord Lieutenant, recommending that a small party of police be stationed in Tamlaght O'Crilly to curb the incidences of riot and outrage; observing that the whole village took part in an incident on Christmas Day. Also covering letters from HJ Heyland, magistrate, Gortnamoyagh, Ganagh, to William Lamb, Chief Secretary and William Gregory, Under Secretary. Also forwarding letter from Lamb, Dublin Castle, to Maj D’Arcy. Memorial signed by 11 of the resident officials and assistants of the Fever Hospital of Galway county and town, to Richard Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, complaining that the Judges of Assize have interpreted the law relating to fever hospitals as meaning that the Grand Jury presentments to hospitals are only to be proportional to private subscriptions gathered; warning that a substantial private subscription can not be raised in the ‘impoverished Town of Galway’ and seeking additional aid from government. Also covering letter from James O’Hara, Lineboy, Galway, to William Lamb, Chief Secretary, reporting that fever is raging in the town. Also copy of letter from Lamb, to William Kemmis, concerning a legal opinion. Also legal case prepared by Kemmis and Carmichael relating to fever hospitals in Ireland and the provisions of two acts, namely 58 Geo 3 c47 [Hospitals (Ireland) Act 1818] and 54 Geo 3 c112 [Hospitals (Ireland) Act 1814] and including legal opinion of Henry Joy, Attorney General and John Doherty, Solicitor General.
