Memorial of John Egan McCormick, Tralee, County Kerry, to Henry William Paget, Lord Lieutenant, seeking to be appointed to the position of Expectant in the Excise Department. Recounting how he and his family were forced to quit their farm at Cloncullen, Ballymahon, County Longford in 1814 following numerous violent attacks by gangs following their refusal to swear unlawful oaths and join in an anti-government conspiracy. Noting that the incidents were reported to Rev James Moffett, magistrate and that he and his father gave evidence against a number of the gang. Includes draft reply from an unidentified official, Dublin Castle, stating that only the Treasury has the power to make such appointments.

Statement outlining a case of a deserted infant who was discovered in Fiddown, County Kilkenny and has been delivered to the churchwardens. Adding that the mother has identified the father who refuses to acknowledge the child and that she claims to be unable to provide for the infant. Noting that the rules of the Foundling Hospital do not permit the child being taken into care. Also letter from William Gregory, addressed to his ‘Dear Father’, outlining the legal case and noting that William Kemmis has given his legal opinion that there was no law in Ireland under which she could be punished. Includes legal opinion of Richard W Greene, explaining that she may be indicted under common law.
