File of documents arising from a charge made against the constabulary and magistrates of Roscommon town that they refused to intervene in a riot at a public house. Includes letter from George Warburton, Dublin, to William Lamb, Chief Secretary, returning the memorial of John Bligh and claiming that the letter was a forgery; adding that there is a system in place to injure and denigrate the constabulary. Also letter from John Bligh, Roscommon, to Lamb, claiming that the constabulary have been ordered not to interfere in riots in the town. Also related letter from TS Ireland, Chief Constable, Roscommon, to Warburton, reporting on a riot which occurred at the public house of John Hanon and the obstruction given to the police from Bernard Connor, a coroner and Bailiff of Roscommon; claiming that the publicans of his town use the constabulary to force their patrons to settle their bills. Also affidavit of the following constables, Edward Gildea, Edward Willis, Francis King and William Woods, Roscommon, providing an account of the affray at Hannon’s public house. Also affidavit of John O’Farrell, Roscommon, concerning the robbery of his [shop] and accusing Eliza Larkin of involvement.
