File of documents concerning the appointment of Mr Coffey to the position of chief constable of Tuamgraney, County Clare. Includes letter from William C Purdon, Tinerana, [County Clare], [probably to Maj Warburton], noting the unsuccessful request from the magistrates of his area for a military force to be stationed at Tomgrany [Tuamgraney] and seeking to have the constabulary force increased and for Coffee to be appointed. Also letter from George Warburton, Inspector General, 128 Kildare Street, [Dublin], to Col Gossett, stating that a reduction in the number of chief constables can ultimately be made but suggesting that any changes should be made later in the following year and adding that Coffey could be appointed for a short period of six months. Also copy of a memorial from 24 magistrates and inhabitants of Tulla barony and resolution of the Grand Jury praising Coffey, acting chief constable and expressing concern that he is to be moved. Also copy of related letter from Henry Goulburn, to Warburton, dated October 1826.
