File of papers relating to shots fired at magistrate Thomas Lee Norman of Corballis [County Louth] on the night of 5 September 1829. Includes letters to the Chief Secretary's Office from: [?Brigade Major] Alexander Armstrong, 42 Lower Gardiner Street, [Dublin]; Sir John Harvey, Inspector General of Police [for Leinster], Kilkenny, forwarding report he received from E Jenkins, Subinspector for County Louth, Dundalk; and Norman, forwarding his statement outlining how shots were fired through his bedroom window on 5 September 1829, as well as a copy of a letter left of his bedroom windowsill, warning that ‘your Badness is now at hand which will be the cause of our misfortune’, and noting that it was sealed with shoemaker’s wax. Also includes memorial from the inhabitants of the parishes of Louth and Tallanstown, to Hugh Percy, Lord Lieutenant, as well as a copy of resolutions passed at a meeting held on 13 September 1829, expressing their support for the apprehension of those responsible for the attack on Norman and offering subscriptions to offer a reward for same, signed by chairman Rev James Marrion DD, parish priest of Tallanstown. Additional draft letters of reply from the Chief Secretary's Office to Norman.
