Letter from General Sir Frederick Stovin, Military Secretary, Royal Hospital Kilmainham, [Dublin], to Francis Leveson Gower, Chief Secretary, outlining his report in relation to enclosed letter from Brigade Major L Scott, Dungannon, County Tyrone, and copy of affidavit sworn before magistrate Robert William Lowry by Adam Limington of Lime Hill against Alexander McCalester [or McCallister] as the ringleader of a band of Ribbonmen assembled in Pomeroy on 13 July 1829. States that as requested, discretionary power has been granted to Maj Gen William Thornton to assemble and move his troops to any areas of his district ‘where circumstances may render their presence advisable for the more secure and effectual preservation of public tranquillity in the event of any display of the popular feeling being manifested on the anniversaries of the 4th and 5th of November’.
