Includes letters from Lord Headfort [Thomas Taylour, 1st Marquess of Headfort], describing the seizure and justifying his and the other magistrates’ committal of six men to Trim Gaol, [County Meath], asking for legal advice; Maj Samson Carter, [magistrate], Kingscourt, [County Cavan], with advice on assemblies near Kilmainham Wood [County Meath], Robert Sargent, agent to Headfort, Eighter, [County Cavan], introducing bearer as witness William [Procter?], stating the tenantry is ‘perfectly organised’; also copy letters from [Archdeacon] Thomas Singleton, [private secretary to Hugh Percy, 3rd duke Northumberland, Dublin] and Sir Henry Hardinge, [1st Viscount Hardinge, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle], on the unpopularity of the police and the preference for using the military in cases of controverted rights.
