Two letters from Col W Blacker Esq, Carrick [Lurgan, County Armagh], to William Gregory, [Under Secretary, Dublin Castle], reporting on meetings on Shane Hill, County Down, by disaffected tenants of Mr Stewart’s estate also encouraged by the outrages in England, stating he has communicated with Stewart and his agent Hamilton; his feelings that Stewart’s rates are too high and citing the bad precedent of Lord Courtney’s estate, County Limerick; asking for reinforcements of police. Appears to have enclosed two threatening notices signed Thomas Downshee and Cap Flint, Ballydoogan, [Ballydougan, County Armagh], addressing Mr Overend and mentioning Hamilton, also mentioning [John Furey?], Peter Clark, William [Arend?]. Further, file includes letter from William Henry, Chief Constable, Augher, [County Armagh], enclosing a threatening notice posted on the Clogher market house [County Armagh], threatening landlords Maxwel [Maxwell], [Story], Gervis and the Bishop to lower their rents.
