Letter from [Sir James] Stewart, magistrate, Fort Stewart, Rathmelton, County Donegal, to an unnamed recipient [but likely the Chief Secretary’s Office], stating he assembled a body of the local yeomanry to protect two vessels in the harbour that were loaded with grain; observing that such a course of action was necessary as a number of threatening notices were posted in the neighbourhood warning of dire consequences for any vessel that attempted to convey grain for export; expressing his strong reservations over the removal of the constabulary from the locality and asking if the yeomanry are entitle to pay for their services on the occasion in question.
