Also letter from Capt R Burnley, 66th Regiment [of Foot], Ballina, [County Mayo], to Maj Gen Sir Thomas Arbuthnot, [assistant adjutant general], Athlone, [County Westmeath], reflecting on the proceedings of a meeting held in the locality for the purpose of securing a reduction in rents, tithes and taxes; estimating that as many as three or four thousand persons assembled; speculating on the causes on the unrest.
