Letter from Rev John Hamilton, Roscrea, writing from the Royal Hotel, College Green, Dublin, to Col Gosset, forwarding a copy of a lengthy memorial submitted by him to Earl Whitworth in 1817 [extant] which has subsequently been published in order to vindicate his motives as a magistrate and repudiate the calumnies which have been privately levied against him and have prevented him for being considered by government for a position; enclosing a copy of a letter from Rev Higgins, Rector of Roscrea, [County Tipperary], to Hamilton, regretting that he cannot retain him as his curate due to lack of finances and regretting that he cannot get another situation. Also memorandum providing a synopsis of Hamilton’s memorial mentioning his tussles with Mr Prittie, magistrate and plots against his life and his request to be superseded from the magistracy in 1816. |
