Stating that Divine claims he is a dancing master and musician and was previously seen with a party of ‘strolling showmen’. Also affidavit of John Wallace. Also threatening notice addressed to the ‘Good people of Skreen’ identifying 13 catholics who have dealt with Sergeant Grimes [Graham], ‘a Brunswicker’ and sworn enemy of their religion. Noting that the meeting was called to introduce regulations regarding lighting, cleansing and watching but that members of the corporation contrived to have it adjourned indefinitely in order to protect their monopoly of local taxation. Observing that the meeting was inconveniently held on a Saturday and that the lower orders were manipulated with false warnings of unlimited taxation. Includes legal opinion of Richard W Greene, fearing that no remedy can be offered in this case

Petition of WJ Heffernan, Clara, [Kings County or County Offaly], to Henry William Paget, Lord Lieutenant, writing on behalf of the principal inhabitants of Clara, claiming that an earlier requisition sent to government relative to the establishment of a night watch was ‘surreptitiously obtained’ and stating that there are only two persons in his town urging for this matter to be carried into effect. Adding that a meeting attended by at least 300 persons opposed the measure while only three individuals proposed its adoption. Includes legal opinion of Richard W Greene.
