SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Letter from Samuel L Montgomery, Moville, [County Donegal], to Francis Leveson Gower, Chief Secretary, submitting lengthy copies of correspondence which he had with the Commissioners of Irish Fisheries soliciting funding for the construction of a pier at Craigbuoy, [County Donegal] and concluding that ‘these Gentlemen as Trustees of a National fund have not come to a fair conclusion of a claim preferred by me’. Also letter from H Townsend, Irish Fishery Office, [Dublin], to William Gregory, Under Secretary, stating that the commissioners have received 17 applications for piers and that due to limited funds they were not in a position to fund a pier at Craigbuoy; adding that Montgomery was not prepared to provide £200 towards the works and that a pier has been constructed at the nearby fishing village of Greencastle at the mouth of Lough Foyle. Also letter from Montgomery, to Gower, claiming that the commissioners failed to take into account the amount of money he had already expended on the project. |

Letter from Edward S Townsend, Dublin, to unidentified recipient, renewing his request to be removed from the constabulary of County Wexford and noting that a situation is available in Naas; adding that he applied to John Harvey, Inspector General on a previous occasion. Also letter from Harvey, Portarlington, [Queens County or County Laois], to Francis Leveson Gower, Chief Secretary, outlining a series of transfers of chief constables to different stations in Wexford and Kildare; recommending that Capt Burke be relocated to Kilcock as the magistrates dislike him, that Mr Bodkin be removed to Wexford due to inefficiency, that Cap Dyas be moved to Naas and that Townsend be moved to Kilcullen; noting that the magistrates and Turf Club wish for Mr Flinter to remain in charge of the station at Rossmore Lodge on the Curragh. |
