States that he wishes to remove the current curate of the parish who has '…become obnoxious to the parishioners in so much as some of them decline attending when he officiates…', 10 April 1823. Letter from Major Benjamin Blake Woodward, inspector general of prisons, 41 Leeson Street, Dublin, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, seeking to advance plans for expenditure on construction of jails and court houses in County Cork, as discussed with Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary. Also copy letter from CSO to Thomas P Luscombe, commissioners for relief of the poor, Dublin Castle, requesting advance of £3,000 for use of Woodward until such times as money can be raised for erection of jails in County Cork by local presentments. Also incomplete letter from CSO to Woodward indicating that upon presentation of receipt [on strength of local assizes presentments] to Luscombe, a payment of £3,000 may be claimed ‘to commence the necessary operations’. Indicates that the plans have passed both the spring and summer county assizes of 1824 and have the consent of Major Benjamin Blake Woodward, inspector general of prisons in Ireland. Conveys that presentments have been obtained for building session houses with bridewells attached in the towns of Mallow, Middleton, Kanturk, Macroom, Bantry, Skibbereen and Clonakilty; and that it is proposed to erect individual bridewells in the towns of Charleville, Dunmanway and Bandon. Seeks decision from the Lord Lieutenant before the 16 December as the commissioners responsible for the proposed building have issued precepts and preparations are underway to contract with the architects for completion of the work. Directs the money should be sent to James Delacour, treasurer of County Cork, and indicates the county grand jury have agreed to repay the grant in 12 instalments.
