Petition of Daniel McCarthy, farmer, Knockane, Dunmanway, County Cork, to Henry William Paget, Lord Lieutenant, drawing attention to a dispute between [Gustavus Meredith] Warner, Mr Rarter and Mr McCarthy concerning the entitlement to rents for his townland which is impacting on the tenants. Noting that one of the tenants was shot by one of Warner’s men during one incident but claiming that the perpetrators were allowed to escape despite the matter being immediately brought before Abraham Jagoe, magistrate. Also petition of John McCarthy of Knockane, to the Lord Lieutenant, providing an eyewitness account and seeking an independent investigation of the matter by Mr Macan, assistant barrister for the West Riding. Also letters from Jagoe, Kinrath, [County Cork], to William Gregory, Under Secretary, giving an account of his taking information from the witnesses and the granting of bail to Warner and noting that Daniel McCarthy subsequently died of his wounds.
