Letter from George King, 3rd earl of Kingston, Myros [Myross] Wood, Rosscarbery, County Cork, to Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, concerning appointments to be made under new Fishery Bill and recommending Lieutenant Richard Alleyn of Royal Navy for appointment. Notes unemployment and 'wretchedness' of poor in the area, 'who will have an opportunity of earning a livelihood, if the fishery Bill is passed this Session'. States that at present 'many of them have not money to buy seed to plant their potato gardens'. Also requests government aid to support efforts to establish a fever dispensary in area, noting that fever epidemic is much less prevalent in area than in previous year.

Urges government to adopt 'vigorous' measures to prevent the 'contagion' from spreading to all parts of Ireland. Comments that, 'Until the Irish are taught to obey the Laws by a due sense of religious and moral Obligation they must be made to obey them by coercive means - This is a most difficult Country to govern'.

Expresses their alarm at the 'rapid' spread of 'that abominable System of Plunder and Assassination' across parts of the country, and stating their fear that it is soon to introduced to their districts. Urges the renactment of the Insurrection Act to maintain law and order. Petition signed by 29 magistrates and landowners, [December 1821].
