Petition of Mary Berrell [also spelt Berril], 3 Ellis Quay, Dublin, widow, to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, stating that she is the administratrix of the estate of her late brother, John Reilly, formerly of His Majesty's frigate 'Caroline'. Details her efforts to obtain payment of wages and prize money due to her brother prior to his drowning in 1800. Requests Wellesley's interference to obtain the money, 16 June 1823. Encloses copies of 2 affidavits by Mary Berrell, County Drogheda, one sworn before Luther Fairtlough, mayor of Drogheda [this is presumably an error in transcription, as Latham Fairtlough was mayor of Drogheda], 30 March 1821, concerning her efforts to obtain the money from William Baker, navy prize agent, Dorset Street, Dublin; and another sworn 18 June 1822, concerning her forwarding the necessary check to Baker's office, but for which she has received no payment. File includes letter from Lieutenant General Quin John Freeman, Henry Singleton, and Robert Gregory, commissioners of the Board Works, Board of Works office, Dublin, to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, 14 June 1823, enclosing copy of report of Francis Johnston, architect to the Board of Works, to Robert Robinson, secretary to the Board of Works, approving of the plans and estimates submitted for the proposed new jail, 13 June 1823.
